Altaş Yapı Sanayi ve Temizlik Hizmetleri was founded in Istanbul in 1992. Altaş began operation by taking over the municipal sanitation in Istanbul's Kartal district and in Kütahya. With the investments it made, it became one of the largest companies in the sector in a short amount of time.

Over time, Altaş has succeeded in increasing its initial capital investment from 100 YTL to 2,000,000 YTL. In addition to economic growth, Altaş has been able to realize corporate growth with increases in the size of its vehicle fleet and number of employees. As of 2006, Altaş has more than 1,600 employees and more than 200 vehicles equipped with the latest technology that serve the municipalities of Kartal, Bakırköy, Kadıköy, Maltepe and Çanakkale as well as various enterprises outside of Turkey.

In addition to municipal sanitation, solid waste collection and sorting of packaging materials, Altaş also operates in the construction sector. In 2004, Altaş built Altaş Plaza, which it uses as its own administrative building, and continues with construction of various buildings on land that are part of its own assets.
